PhD student at Brown University bases research on 9th grade ASRP science project

Hong Truong is a graduate of our ASRP mentorship program. Now at Brown University studying immunology, the research she does for her PhD is based on her 9th grade science project completed with the support of the ASRP.

"I wouldn’t have been as determined if I hadn’t been able to be a part of the Schmahl Science Workshops.

It wasn't until I began my first real science fair project in my freshmen year that I realized to the full extent how much I liked science. My project on the antibiotic resistance of the bacteria Staphylococcus aureus gave me a sense of responsibility from being able to carry out a college level project at the beginning of high school. This encouraged me to pursue my interest in biology.

I feel fortunate to be able to be involved and fortunate that the workshop has been able to provide me with all I’ve needed so far to continue my interest. I hope the workshop continues to provide kids with the tools needed to discover their dreams in life, like it has for me, even long after I’ve graduated."
